In phase one the main floor was completely reconfigured, including lowering the garage to create a patio and positive connection to the rear yard and ship canal beyond. The two bedrooms on the main floor were re-purposed as the kitchen and family room while the old kitchen became the guest bedroom. The bathroom remained in its original location with updated fixtures and finishes. Even the stair to the upper floor was turned from landing in the dining room to the family room.
Five years later in phase two a front porch and upper floor were added, including three bedrooms, a bath, and a master suite. Custom brackets, tapered porch columns, and a curved porch beam illustrate the level of detail and craft involved in this project. The expanded front porch and additional space make this house ideal for family life.
The master bathroom uses an updated tile scheme based on the historic “sanitary white” schemes of the 1920s. Natural fir cabinetry warms the space, providing a Northwest feel. There is a soaking pedestal tub, walk-in shower, double sink vanity, and heated floors. The space seems generous due to space-saving designs, semi-encastre sinks with plenty of storage both in the lower cabinets and in the extra deep upper cabinets. The tiled shower with both fixed and hand-held showerheads is tucked under the eaves, and features a built-in bench and shampoo niche.
