For this family home, we remodeled the kitchen bring functionality and a refreshed style to the heart of the house. We opened the kitchen to the adjacent music room to take advantage of the southern view. With a living room open to the dining room we were better able to define the dining area with cabinets matching those of the kitchen. We removed a small bar and inserted a stair to allow interior access to the newly created and finished lower floor.
Originally built from a stock plan on a site with an extremely steep slope, this ranch-style home had a tall, unfinished crawl space. We took advantage of this to add an exercise room, family room, guest bedroom, bath, storage room, wine cellar, and mechanical room. For this family with teenage sons, the extra space gives everyone room to breathe.
