HILLMAN CITY STUDIOS

- affordability, green building -

We purchased the former Jean VelDyke building in Hillman City in Spring 2024 and began construction on the tenant improvements in July. We moved ourselves in into one of the four commercial spaces in October 2024. Two long term residential tenants left in 2025, creating the need for upgrading two of the 4 apartment units.
We focused the design on eco-friendly finishes that would be easy to clean, durable long-term finishes, upgrades to improve air quality and livability, and choices easy for a tenant to personalize with furnishings. Each unit had the kitchen and bathroom finished and fixtures replaced. Material choices included cork flooring, recycled countertops, sinks and faucets. Major improvements included adding range hood venting and washer/dryers to the units.
To create a more welcoming residential hallway we added durable walk-off carpeting, a custom mural, and new unit numbers.
We collaborated with Christine Hansen at Pineview Interiors for advice and carpet selection.
