Passive/Active Solar Home Nears Completion on Whidbey Island

ith the weather report warning of incoming rainstorms, we took advantage of the beautiful fall day to visit one of our designs under construction on Whidbey Island. It is getting close to completion, and the owners should be moving in some time in the next month.

All the main rooms face the southwest.

The main entry of the house is on the northeast, well protected from prevailing winds.

The house is oriented to the west-southwest for passive solar, and the garage roof angles due south for the photovoltaics.

The master bathroom has a large tub and exterior access to a private deck and outdoor shower.

The kitchen has maple cabinets and is open to the main room.

Larry relaxing on the patio.

The patio enjoys a large overhang, built-in poured concrete bench, and stunning views of the Olympic Mountains.
